A laptop donation from Stockport based tech firm, CDL, is enabling disadvantaged adults in Greater Manchester to boost their job prospects with digital skills training provided by community day centre, Oasis.

CDL's donation is in support of the centre's cause to help those in deprived areas of Manchester live happier and more functional lifestyles. Clients of Oasis will use the laptops to search for job opportunities online and undertake 1-2-1 IT lessons, in order to develop the pre-requisite skills necessary for successful employment.

The donation will also aid crisis support at the Oasis Centre, enabling staff and volunteers to access a wider range of sources to help those in need more effectively.

This is not CDL's first involvement with the Oasis Centre. The software house provides a six-month ‘Touch, Type, Read and Spell' course and tablet course for the centre's clients via its community investment programme, the CDL Fund. Since it's establishment in 2012 the fundraising scheme has raised over £250,000 for a wide range of community projects in Greater Manchester.

CEO of the Oasis Centre, Victoria Armstrong, said: "We support vulnerable and disadvantaged people living and sleeping rough in Gorton and East Manchester. CDL understood our need straight away and got to work helping us future-proof our clients with IT support and equipment.

"Their partnership with us has literally changed our client‘s lives for the better and we can't thank CDL enough for their ongoing support and trust in our project."
