News Story Image Simon Thorley, senior data engineer at technology firm, CDL, has achieved international recognition for becoming one of the world's first Elastic Certified Engineers.

Simon joins an exclusive community of individuals across the globe who have successfully demonstrated their Elasticsearch skills by passing the performance-based exam that first launched last July. The certification recognises him as an expert engineer with a high level of knowledge and ability with the Elastic product. CDL's data services team now boasts over 45 accreditations, ranging from AWS Solution Architect Associates to Google Cloud Engineers.

Elasticsearch is an open-source search and analytics engine used to power applications with complex requirements, such as CDL's high-speed data intelligence and anti-fraud solution, Hummingbird. Simon utilises Elasticsearch on a daily basis to provide market-leading services to a number of high-profile financial services customers, ranging from entity resolution to machine learning analytics.

Simon said: "It's a great achievement to have my skills professionally confirmed on a global level. I have been an advocate for Elasticsearch throughout my career and have attended several Elastic Training courses before attempting the exam. The combination of the hands-on curriculum and my time working at CDL has enabled me to vastly develop my knowledge of the product"

"We have more engineers set to sit the certification exam this year and I look forward to seeing Elasticsearch adopted company-wide."

CDL data services manager, Shane Blinkhorn, added: "CDL is always looking to be ahead of the game in our adoption of technologies and supporting our people to achieve industry-recognised certifications is one way of doing this.

"Simon is a prime example of the talented team we have at CDL and we hope to utilise their knowledge of Elasticsearch to diversify our client offerings going forward."
